Professor Walter Savage to Speak on the Twomblys at College at Florham Library

The College at Florham Library will host a talk by FDU Prof. Emer. Walter Savage about the Twombly Family.

Florence Vanderbilt Twombly and her husband Hamilton McKeon Twombly in 1894 established their Florham estate residence, also giving the name to the town of Florham Park. A remaining portion of the original estate, in 1958, became a campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University, which this academic year celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Exhibition of Florham’s Early Years

As part of our celebration of the 50th anniversary of the College at Florham, the library has prepared a photographic exhibition of “The Early Years,” showing images drawn from the archives of the beginning period of the campus (and even the pre-campus Vanderbilt-Twombly estate). There is a sampling of campus publications produced during the campus’ early years as well.

The exhibition, which begins on Tuesday, Sept. 2, is mounted in the lobby of the College at Florham Library, and may be viewed during library hours: M-Th, 8:30am-11pm; F, 8:30am-5pm; Sat, 11am-5pm; and Sun, 2-10pm. For information, telephone 973.443.8515 or -8516. Vanderbilt-Twombly estate
