NJKI Resources: September 2008 Update

Announcements, Databases  Tagged , , Comments Off

The VALE member libraries, including Fairleigh Dickinson University Library, are pleased that the New Jersey State Library’s (NJSL) commitment to the New Jersey Knowledge Initiative (NJKI) remains strong and continues to include an active role for New Jersey’s academic libraries.  For more information on the current status of NJKI please refer to the documentation posted at the VALE website — http://valenj.org/.

Urgent Notice – NJKI Resources

Announcements, Databases, Funding  Tagged 2 Comments »

Effective July 1, 2008, academic libraries will no longer receive the subsidized databases from the New Jersey Knowledge Initiative (NJKI) funded by the New Jersey State Library (NJSL). Unfortunately, this also includes access to EBSCO’s Academic Search Premier, which has been funded until now by the NJSL. We understand the magnitude and impact this news has during what is already a fiscally difficult time.

There is a possibility that funding will be forthcoming to subsidize costs for Academic Search Premier and Reference USA, but we need to prepare for the worst.

State Funding Cut May Affect Access to Business Databases

Access to NJKI resources may end on February 29, 2008 due to a cut in state funding for this critically important program. To help keep these resources for New Jersey, please call Governor Corzine’s office at (609)292-6000 and ask that the NJKI be fully restored by adding $1 million during FY2008. The New Jersey State Library has created a YouTube video that gives an excellent overview of the NJKI program:
