Black History Month Exhibit at Florham

African-American girlThe Library celebrates Black History Month this year with an exhibition of studio portraits of anonymous African-Americans photographed, ca. 1915, by an anonymous African-American photographer working in Philadelphia in the early twentieth century; and a sampling of books drawn from the Library’s non-circulating collections of works by African-American authors and photographers, all of which are first printings.

These photographs were printed from a group of glass negatives found in the studio of a Philadelphia artist.
They were discovered by Carol Wald (1935-2001), a New York-based artist and graphic designer, who loaned the plates for printing to a Morris County resident who has made these prints available to us for this exhibition.

The photos will be on display in the lobby of the College at Florham Library from January 26 – March 6, 2009 during normal library hours. For more information about this exhibit, please call the College at Florham Library at 973-443-8516 or -8515.
