Knowing the Koran

Announcements, Events, Films, Lecture, Monninger Center, Muslim Journeys Comments Off

Please join us on Wednesday, March 27th at 11am in the Monninger Center Orangerie for the presentation “Recite & Recall – Knowing the Koran”. Guest presenter, Dr. Heba Musharraf of Princeton University, will examine the relationship between faith, the Koran, and the role that memorization plays in defining and substantiating the way Islam is lived and experienced. The discussion will be followed by a screening of a Greg Barker documentary, “Koran by Heart,” and a question and answer portion.

This event is a part of “Muslim Journeys,” a project grant from the American Library Association, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Humanities that the College at Florham Library was awarded this semester. This grant provided the library with twenty-five written texts, four documentaries, and University-wide access to the Oxford Islamic Studies Online database.

For information about this event or the upcoming series please email Dr. Kenneth Sammond at ksammond@fdu.edu, or call the FDU Library at (973)443-8515.
